Civilian Toll Rises After SDF Attacks in Aleppo City

Civilian casualties in Aleppo have risen sharply after renewed attacks by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a group linked to the PKK/YPG, Syrian state media report. According to local health officials, at least nine civilians have been killed and 55 others wounded in multiple shelling incidents across residential districts since Tuesday, with the toll continuing to climb amid ongoing hostilities.

Mounir al‑Mohammad, media director of the Aleppo Health Directorate, told the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) that the fatalities and injuries resulted from indiscriminate SDF shelling targeting densely populated neighborhoods. State broadcaster Al‑Ikhbariya TV reported that Syrian army units struck back at positions used by SDF forces to fire upon civilian areas such as Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud, claiming the militants embed themselves among residential buildings — a tactic that endangers non‑combatants.

In addition to shelling, reports indicate sniper fire wounded civilians in several districts, forcing hundreds to flee their homes as part of the third consecutive day of clashes. Hundreds more residents have been displaced as fighting disrupted essential services and sparked urgent evacuations.

The escalating violence comes despite a March agreement aiming to integrate SDF elements into national institutions — a deal Syrian authorities say the group has failed to honor. The humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate as international concern grows and calls for de‑escalation intensify.
