MIRPUR ( AJK): November 10: The Delhi High Court on Saturday heard arguments in the ongoing appeal concerning the conviction of veteran Kashmir freedom struggle leader Yasin Malik, who is serving two life sentences in Tihar Jail. The case, presided over by a Division Bench of Justices Vivek Kumar Chaudhary and Manoj Jain, has been adjourned to January 28, 2026, after hearing submissions from both sides, says a report reaching here on Monday from across the line of control.

“During the proceedings, the National Investigation Agency (NIA), represented by Special Public Prosecutor Akshai Malik, requested the court to conduct the hearing in-camera, citing national security concerns. The NIA urged that public access to the video link be restricted, arguing that the matter involves sensitive information related to alleged terror financing and conspiracy. The Bench agreed to consider the request before further arguments”, the report said unveiling details of the proceeding”, according to the report.

Yasin Malik, Chairman of his own faction of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front, (JKLF -Y) appearing virtually from Tihar Jail and representing himself, objected to the prolonged delay in the appeal process, terming it a form of “psychological torture.” He reminded the court that the NIA’s appeal has been pending since 2022, leaving him in a state of uncertainty regarding a potential death sentence. Malik urged the Bench to expedite the hearing to end the prolonged mental and emotional strain.

The court noted Malik’s previous affidavits, in which he outlined his role in peace dialogues with six successive Indian governments following his 1994 unilateral ceasefire, emphasizing his commitment to non-violence and dialogue.

While detailed arguments were not taken up, the court adjourned the matter to January 28, 2026, aiming to balance national security considerations with Malik’s plea for timely justice.

Meanwhile adding his remarks on the proceedings, US-based JKLF ( Yasin Malik) leader Raja Muzaffar, a close confidant of Yasin Malik and Coordinator of the Justice for Yasin Malik Campaign, said:

“Justice delayed is justice denied. Every day of delay deepens the wound of injustice — not just for Yasin Malik, but for all who believe in peace, dialogue, and dignity for Kashmir”, a message reaching and released to the media here sais.
