TORONTO — A Delta Air Lines flight made a dramatic crash landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Monday, causing the plane to flip over. The incident involved 80 people, including 76 passengers and four crew members, all of whom survived. Authorities confirmed that 21 people were injured, with only a few sustaining serious injuries, a fact many are calling miraculous.
The flight, arriving from Minneapolis, skidded down the runway and came to a halt upside down, with flames visible as it stopped. Despite a major snowstorm earlier in the weekend, the runway was dry at the time of the crash, and there were no cross-wind conditions that might have contributed. Experts suggest the plane may have struck an object on the runway, such as a light.
Passengers described the terrifying experience, with one noting that they were “hanging upside down like bats” before managing to free themselves and crawl out onto the snow-covered ground. Firefighters quickly responded, rescuing passengers.
Delta Air Lines stated that 19 of the 21 injured passengers have been released from the hospital. A child was among the injured but is reported to be in stable condition.
The investigation is ongoing, led by the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, with support from U.S. authorities. The incident is the fourth major aviation accident in North America in the past month. Two runways remain closed at the airport as officials continue their probe.
