KUWAIT CITY, March 27 — Kuwait announced that its main commercial port, Shuwaikh Port, was targeted in a hostile drone attack early Friday morning, causing material damage but no casualties.
The Kuwait Ports Authority confirmed that unmanned aerial vehicles struck port facilities, prompting activation of emergency procedures with relevant agencies. Operations and safety protocols were implemented to secure the area and assess damage.
Shuwaikh Port, located near Kuwait City, serves as the country’s primary maritime trade hub, handling cargo storage, distribution, and commercial shipping vital to Kuwait’s economy.
The incident comes amid rising regional tensions following the joint US-Israeli offensive on Iran launched Feb. 28. Iran has since responded with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel and other countries in the region, including locations hosting US military assets, causing infrastructure damage and disruptions to markets and aviation.
