ISTANBUL – At the 11th D-8 Summit in Cairo, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called for stronger global unity and justice, addressing the challenges posed by escalating conflicts and the failure of global institutions to maintain security and stability.
Erdogan highlighted the recent advancement of the D-8 organization, particularly the approval of a preferential trade agreement with Egypt, which he stated would help expand economic cooperation among member countries. He also emphasized the importance of involving less-developed nations in global initiatives, citing the role of TEKNOFEST, Turkey’s world-renowned aviation and space festival, in fostering technological progress and inclusivity.
In his speech, Erdogan welcomed Azerbaijan’s membership in the D-8, describing it as a significant step toward strengthening the organization. He also spoke of Turkey’s ongoing efforts to support global justice and development.
Regarding Syria, Erdogan stressed the need for international solidarity to help rebuild the war-torn country after over 13 years of civil war. He called for peace, unity, and coexistence among all ethnic and religious groups in Syria. “Our ultimate goal is to see a Syria free from terrorism, where all groups live side by side in peace,” Erdogan concluded, reaffirming Turkey’s commitment to regional stability and peace.
