Istanbul, October 14 – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reaffirmed Türkiye’s strong commitment to Gaza’s post-war reconstruction following the Sharm el-Sheikh Peace Summit, where leaders signed a historic ceasefire agreement aimed at ending months of conflict and humanitarian suffering.
Hosted by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and US President Donald Trump, the summit gathered more than 20 world leaders in Egypt’s Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh. The signing ceremony, attended by President Erdogan and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, marked a collective pledge to secure and sustain peace in Gaza.
Speaking to journalists on his return flight from Egypt, President Erdogan described the summit as “a milestone in the path toward lasting peace,” adding that the signatures reflect “a shared moral responsibility to prevent future tragedies.” He emphasized that Türkiye will take decisive steps to address Gaza’s urgent humanitarian and shelter needs, especially with winter approaching.
Erdogan highlighted that Türkiye has already sent around 350 humanitarian aid trucks into Gaza, while the agreement envisions increasing daily deliveries to at least 600. He called for broad international participation in reconstruction, saying Türkiye expects contributions “from the Gulf countries to the United States and Europe.”
The Turkish leader reiterated that Türkiye’s ultimate goal remains the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Commenting on regional stability, Erdogan also noted that Türkiye continues to urge the Syrian Democratic Forces to support Syria’s unity and territorial integrity, stressing that cooperation within Syria will accelerate its overall development process.
Erdogan concluded that the Sharm el-Sheikh Summit’s outcome “is not symbolic—it represents a concrete and historical commitment to a peaceful Middle East.”
