Istanbul, November 8 – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan emphasized the importance of maintaining a ceasefire between Pakistan and Afghanistan, during a meeting with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Baku on Saturday, according to Türkiye’s Communications Directorate.
President Erdogan said that Türkiye is closely monitoring the recent terrorist attacks in Pakistan and the rising tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. He expressed hope that the ongoing talks under Türkiye’s auspices would lead to lasting peace and stability in the region, reaffirming Ankara’s readiness to continue facilitating dialogue.
He further highlighted the strong bilateral ties between Türkiye and Pakistan, stressing cooperation in key sectors including trade, energy, and defense industries. Erdogan noted that enhancing collaboration in these areas would contribute to regional development and strengthen the long-standing partnership between the two countries.
The Turkish leader also underscored the need to preserve the ceasefire in Gaza and called for continued engagement within the framework of the United Nations to ensure humanitarian relief and lasting peace in the region.
Both leaders attended Azerbaijan’s Victory Day ceremony in Baku earlier in the day, where they witnessed a military parade marking the occasion.
