ISTANBUL — Türkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday stressed that Ankara will continue to highlight the Palestinian cause at every platform, as criticism of Israel mounts and international pressure grows.
Speaking at the presidential complex in Ankara during a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Erdogan accused Israel of consistently undermining peace and pledged that Türkiye will serve as the voice of Palestine at the UN General Assembly.
He described Israel’s assault on Gaza as a “new phase of genocide,” warning that it endangers not only Palestine but also regional stability, citing Qatar as a recent example of escalation.
Reiterating Türkiye’s priority, Erdogan called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and urgent steps to end the worsening humanitarian crisis. He also emphasized the importance of unity within the Islamic world against Israel, along with the need for greater Palestinian political cohesion.
During the talks, Erdogan and Abbas reviewed bilateral ties as well as regional and international developments of mutual concern.
