ISTANBUL: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday urged an immediate halt to the ongoing US-Israeli war with Iran, warning that the conflict could escalate further and threaten stability across the wider Middle East.
Addressing his party’s parliamentary group meeting in Ankara, Erdogan emphasized that a diplomatic solution to the crisis remains “completely possible” if all sides return to dialogue and negotiations. He said Türkiye is continuing its efforts patiently to help revive diplomacy and encourage the parties to return to the negotiating table.
The Turkish leader noted that the rapidly evolving situation in the region requires careful and responsible action. He stressed that Ankara is speaking cautiously and taking necessary measures to safeguard its national interests amid growing regional tensions.
Erdogan also reiterated that Türkiye cannot remain indifferent to the crises unfolding in its neighborhood and stands with regional partners and allies during difficult times. He warned that the country is closely monitoring developments and taking steps against what he described as “bloody scenarios” emerging in the region, particularly those that could fuel sectarian divisions.
Highlighting Türkiye’s long-standing policy, Erdogan underlined that Ankara does not discriminate among people based on race, ethnicity, sect, or language. He stressed that Islam is one religion and rejected attempts to divide the Muslim world along sectarian lines.
The Turkish president reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to peace and regional stability through dialogue and diplomacy.
