ISTANBUL – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has strongly criticized Israel’s escalating aggression, warning that it poses a serious threat to peace and stability across the region.
Speaking at the 17th Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) summit in Khankendi, Azerbaijan, Erdogan declared: “We can neither abandon the Palestinian cause nor remain silent while the Netanyahu government turns our region into a bloodbath.”
The Turkish leader also emphasized the importance of international support for Afghanistan, saying: “We must assist in securing peace, stability, and development for the Afghan people.”
Addressing fellow ECO member states, Erdogan urged stronger engagement with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, particularly in areas of economy, sports, culture, and tourism.
Turning to environmental concerns, Erdogan highlighted Türkiye’s efforts in clean energy and sustainability. He pointed to the National Energy Efficiency Action Plan for 2024–2030, aimed at reducing 100 million tons of CO₂ equivalent emissions.
He also spotlighted the impact of Türkiye’s Zero Waste Project, stating, “Since its launch, we’ve prevented around 6 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions. This gives our climate efforts added momentum.”
The summit, held under the theme “New ECO Vision for a Sustainable and Climate Resilient Future”, gathered leaders to discuss regional cooperation on pressing economic and environmental challenges.
