Brussels, August 13 (QNA) – The European Commission (EC) on Wednesday underscored the supportive position of Western nations for Ukraine in its war against Russia.
Following her virtual participation in a meeting with US President Donald Trump, European leaders, alongside the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of EC, Ursula von der Leyen, posted on X affirming that Europe, the US, and NATO had enhanced their joint posture on Ukraine.
The outcomes of the meeting were incredibly positive. Close coordination will continue, as no one wants peace more than the people of Ukraine, a just and lasting peace, she emphasized.
French President Emmanuel Macron revealed that Trump stressed the necessity of involving Ukraine in any discussions on territorial issues in a potential ceasefire agreement with Russia.
Analysts suggest that Trump’s insistence on engaging Ukraine, if confirmed, could provide some assurance to Ukraine and its allies. They fear the possibility of the US and Russian Presidents reaching a deal that abandons the security interests of Europe and Ukraine, and proposes the partition of Ukrainian territory.
Trump and Putin are scheduled to meet in Alaska next Friday to hold talks aimed at ending the largest conflict in Europe since World War II, which has been raging for three and a half years.
