Lviv – A 23-year-old police officer was killed and 25 people injured in a terror attack in Lviv, western Ukraine, officials said Sunday.
According to the National Police of Ukraine, two homemade explosive devices, planted in waste bins, detonated after police responded to a reported break-in shortly after midnight. Eleven victims were hospitalized, including six law enforcement officers in serious condition. The deceased officer was identified as Viktoria Shpylka, who had joined service at the start of the Kherson region conflict.
President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the detention of a suspect linked to the attack. Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi said the individual is a Ukrainian woman. Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko added that authorities are investigating others potentially involved in the incident. The regional prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation into the act of terrorism that caused “grave consequences.”
Meanwhile, Ukraine experienced overnight Russian missile and drone strikes targeting the energy sector, residential areas, and railways ahead of the fourth anniversary of Moscow’s full-scale invasion. Kyiv’s air defenses intercepted 50 missiles and nearly 300 drones. At least one person was killed in the Kyiv region, with a woman and child hospitalized.
The Lviv explosions mark a grim escalation in ongoing security challenges as Ukraine continues to face both internal and external threats
