TUCSON, Feb. 13 — The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has released the first official physical description of a suspect believed to be involved in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of U.S. television anchor Savannah Guthrie.

Nancy Guthrie disappeared overnight from her Tucson, Arizona, home on January 31. Authorities believe she was taken against her will. Following forensic analysis of doorbell camera footage recorded outside her residence, investigators described the suspect as a man standing between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall, with an average build.

The FBI also highlighted a distinctive 25-litre Ozark Trail Hiker backpack seen in the surveillance footage. During search operations, a pair of black gloves was reportedly recovered. Officials have expressed concern about Guthrie’s health, noting that she requires medication and may be at serious risk without it.

Since February 1, the FBI says it has received more than 13,000 tips, including approximately 4,000 within 24 hours after the surveillance video was released. Authorities have doubled the reward for information leading to her recovery to $100,000.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed that a man was briefly detained following a property search in Rio Rico but was later released. Meanwhile, Savannah Guthrie and her siblings have issued public appeals, expressing hope that their mother remains alive.
