The first meeting of the newly established Gaza Administration Committee was held Friday in Cairo, marking a key step toward coordinating relief efforts and postwar reconstruction planning for the Gaza Strip, Egyptian media reported.
Qahera News TV said the inaugural session brought together members of a Palestinian technocratic committee tasked with overseeing Gaza’s civil administration during a proposed transition period. Discussions focused on humanitarian relief, restoration of basic services, and longer-term reconstruction priorities.
The committee’s formation follows recent consultations among Palestinian factions in Cairo and comes amid broader diplomatic initiatives led by the United States. The meeting coincided with an announcement by US Middle East Envoy Steve Witkoff on the launch of phase two of a US-backed Gaza plan outlining a new administrative and security framework.
Phase two centers on a Peace Council mechanism combining a Palestinian technocratic administration with an international stabilization force. Under the proposal, the technocratic committee would manage civilian governance and essential services as Israeli forces withdraw, while an international force would provide temporary security and stability.
Sources said the framework would operate under the supervision of a Peace Council led by US President Donald Trump, with backing through a United Nations Security Council resolution.
The committee is chaired by Ali Shaath, a former Palestinian deputy planning minister. Members include Omar Shamaly for telecommunications, Abdul Karim Ashour for agriculture, Raed Yaghi for health, Raed Abu Ramadan for trade and economy, Jabr al-Daour for education, Bashir al-Rais for finance, Ali Barhoum for water and municipalities, and Hanaa Tarzi for social affairs and women’s issues.
