Germany has urged China to use its influence to encourage Iran to enter negotiations with the United States in order to end the ongoing conflict and ensure the safety of international shipping routes, according to official statements released on Thursday.
German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul made the appeal after a telephone conversation with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. He said both Berlin and Beijing share serious concerns over the escalating crisis in the Middle East and its impact on regional stability and global trade.
Wadephul stressed that China could play a constructive role by encouraging Iran to support a negotiated solution and a cessation of hostilities, particularly actions affecting Gulf states and vital maritime routes.
He added that continued dialogue between Germany and China remains important in the current global environment, noting that both countries support efforts to end the conflict quickly and ensure freedom of navigation, especially through the Strait of Hormuz.
Germany and China agreed that international shipping lanes must remain open and free from control or tolls imposed by any single country.
