Germany is facing renewed scrutiny after official data revealed that hundreds of neo-Nazis with active arrest warrants remain at large across the country. According to a government response to a parliamentary query submitted by the opposition Left Party, 714 known right-wing extremists continue to evade authorities despite outstanding warrants.
The figures, disclosed through the German media network RND, indicate that at least 115 of these individuals have fled abroad. Poland and Austria are among the most common destinations, hosting 20 and 13 fugitives respectively. Of those who left the country, 39 are wanted for violent offenses, raising concerns about cross-border security risks and the ability of German authorities to enforce existing laws.
Left Party domestic affairs spokesperson Clara Bunger described the situation as “deeply troubling,” emphasizing that the consistently high number of unexecuted warrants reflects a persistent security gap. She urged federal and regional authorities to significantly strengthen their focus on apprehending right-wing extremists.
The latest statistics add to growing alarm over the rise of right-wing extremist activity in Germany. Data from the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) shows that offenses linked to right-wing extremism surged to 42,788 incidents in 2024 — the highest level recorded since nationwide monitoring began in 2001 and nearly 50 percent higher than the previous year.
The findings have intensified calls for more coordinated enforcement measures, stronger monitoring, and enhanced regional cooperation to confront the escalating threat posed by violent extremist networks.
