Berlin: Germany has stressed that Palestinians must play a central role in any future plans to rebuild Gaza, following the presentation of a US-backed reconstruction initiative.
Speaking in Berlin, Deputy Foreign Ministry Spokesman Josef Hinterseher said the Palestinian population must be closely involved in shaping Gaza’s future and that their rights must be fully respected. His remarks came after a presentation in Davos outlining proposals to transform war-affected Gaza with modern infrastructure, including high-rise buildings, residential and industrial zones, agricultural projects, and a redeveloped coastline aimed at boosting tourism.
While underscoring the importance of Palestinian participation, Hinterseher welcomed the announcement of an upcoming reconstruction conference, describing it as a positive and constructive signal.
Separately, Lisa Royaee, spokeswoman for Germany’s Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, emphasized that there are clear red lines regarding Gaza’s rebuilding process. She stated that reconstruction efforts must avoid annexation and remain firmly focused on serving the needs and rights of the local population.
The developments coincide with the launch of phase two of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, which brought an end to two years of conflict. The newly established Board of Peace, chaired by former US President Donald Trump, is expected to oversee ceasefire implementation and broader peace-building efforts in conflict-affected regions.
