MIRPUR (AJK): March 18 : Washington-based leading international digital rights organization, the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), has responded to concerns raised by Kashmiri political and peace activist US-based Raja Muzaffar, the acting Chairman of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (Yasin Malik) regarding the blocking of his account on X (Twitter) by the Government in India.
In its reply, EFF acknowledged the situation and advised Muzaffar to seek legal counsel within India as a first step to challenge the restriction, our Special Jammu Kashmir state Correspondent Altaf Hamid Rao reports quoting a message, reaching and released to the media here on Wednesday.
The organization also indicated that it remains open to further engagement should local remedies prove ineffective, the message added.
The response comes amid growing international concern over the use of legal provisions such as Section 69A of India’s Information Technology Act to restrict online content and silence dissenting voices, it said
Observers note that cases like Muzaffar’s highlight broader issues of digital censorship, particularly affecting voices from Kashmir advocating peace, political dialogue, and human rights.
The development underscores the increasing need for global attention to digital freedom and the protection of freedom of expression in online spaces, the message concluded.
