Doha, October 13 (QNA) – World leaders have gathered in Egypt’s Sharm El-Sheikh for a high-level peace summit aimed at cementing a Gaza ceasefire and launching a roadmap toward lasting regional stability and reconstruction.
Co-chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and US President Donald Trump, the summit brings together leaders and representatives from more than 20 countries. Among the key participants is HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, reaffirming Qatar’s steadfast support for the Palestinian people and its leading role in diplomatic mediation and humanitarian relief for Gaza.
The meeting seeks to formalize a ceasefire agreement, ensure uninterrupted humanitarian access, and revive political negotiations between Palestinians and Israelis. President Trump expressed optimism that both sides are committed to ending hostilities, announcing that the proposed peace plan includes phased reconstruction measures and international pledges for Gaza’s rebuilding.
Leaders including Jordan’s King Abdullah II, Türkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and France’s President Emmanuel Macron emphasized that a two-state solution remains essential for lasting peace. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is expected to call for an international monitoring mission and support the formation of a transitional administration in Gaza.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres underscored the importance of sustained coordination among mediating nations — particularly Qatar, Egypt, and the United States — to prevent a relapse into violence.
Qatar has played a central role in securing two previous ceasefires, facilitating humanitarian deliveries, and coordinating aid corridors with Egypt and international agencies. Since Israel’s aggression began on October 7, 2023, Gaza’s health authorities report over 67,000 deaths and 170,000 injuries, with widespread destruction of homes and infrastructure.
The Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit is viewed as a pivotal opportunity to convert the fragile truce into a durable peace framework, rekindling hopes for renewed diplomacy and reconstruction across the war-torn Gaza Strip.
