MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., May 20 — Google kicked off its highly anticipated I/O 2025 developer conference today with a globally streamed keynote, unveiling its newest advancements in artificial intelligence, Android, and extended reality (XR).
The highlight of the keynote was the introduction of Android 16, featuring a refreshed Material 3 Expressive design language, improved privacy features, and deeper integration with Google’s Gemini AI. These enhancements are set to deliver more personalized, secure, and seamless experiences across Android devices.
Another major reveal was the Android XR glasses, offering a first look at Google’s next step into wearable tech. A limited number of attendees will have the opportunity to demo the glasses during the event.
Though no new Pixel devices were announced, the focus remained on software innovation. Gemini AI’s evolving capabilities across platforms especially Google Cloud, Chrome, and Google Play highlighted the company’s continued push toward intelligent and interconnected ecosystems.
The conference builds on momentum from last week’s pre-recorded Android Show and continues through May 21, featuring sessions for developers worldwide. The keynote and additional content are available to stream via Google’s I/O website and YouTube channel.
