Ankara, September 4, 2025 (rki.news) – Access to Google platforms including YouTube, Gmail, Maps, Chrome, and Translate was restored Thursday following a widespread outage that affected millions of users across dozens of countries.
The disruption began around 10:10 a.m. local time (0710 GMT), with monitoring sites such as DownDetector and Outage Report noting a surge in complaints from Türkiye, Bulgaria, Greece, Georgia, Croatia, Serbia, Armenia, Romania, the Netherlands, Germany, and more than 30 other nations. Reports indicated users were unable to log in or faced repeated connection failures.
Turkish Deputy Transport and Infrastructure Minister Omer Fatih Sayan confirmed the outage, stressing that it spanned Türkiye and much of Europe. “Our National Cyber Incident Response Center has requested a technical report from Google regarding the cause, and we continue to monitor developments closely,” he said.
The disruption lasted for roughly an hour before services gradually resumed around 08:00 GMT. Although functionality has been restored, Google has not yet released an official explanation for the outage.
Some users also reported difficulties accessing Spotify during the same period, though it remains unclear if the issues were linked.
Analysts noted that even short disruptions to widely used digital services can have significant ripple effects, impacting communications, online learning, remote work, and navigation systems. Thursday’s outage underscored global reliance on Google’s ecosystem, which serves billions of users daily across multiple platforms.
