Government left reeling after SC ruling on reserved seats: Asad Qaiser

English , Latest - تازہ ترین , / Monday, July 15th, 2024

Former Speaker of the National Assembly and senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Asad Qaiser has criticised the government, stating that it is now on high alert and feeling the repercussions of recent Supreme Court decisions. Responding to the government’s decision to ban PTI, Qaiser questioned what tactics the government hasn’t employed against his party, asserting that the government now understands how it has no survival. “Our struggle is according to the Constitution and the law,” he added. He concluded by reiterating their ongoing efforts, vowing to confront the government across all forums. Earlier in the day, the federal government and its coalition partners decided to file a review petition against the Supreme Court’s ruling, which declared the PTI eligible for reserved seats, a decision that dashed its hopes of gaining a two-thirds majority in Parliament. Addressing a press conference on Monday, Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar stated, “In the recent decision, undue relief was granted to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), prompting us to seek a review.” He claimed that the manifesto of the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), the party that PTI-backed independent candidates joined, declares that no non-Muslim can be a member of their party.
