HARRISBURG, April, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and his family were forced to evacuate their official residence overnight after a suspected arson attack set part of the home ablaze.
The incident occurred shortly after the family had celebrated the first night of Passover at their residence in Harrisburg. Shapiro said he was awakened by emergency personnel knocking on the door as flames spread through the property. “Thank God no one was injured and the fire was extinguished,” he stated on social media platform X.
State authorities have confirmed the fire is being investigated as an act of arson, though no arrests have yet been made. The blaze caused “significant damage to a portion of the residence,” according to police, but the governor and his family were in another section of the home at the time and escaped unharmed.
Investigators are currently reviewing surveillance footage and gathering evidence from the scene. A $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of those responsible.
The incident has sparked concern across the state, drawing strong condemnation from public officials. While the motive remains unclear, authorities emphasized that any attack on public officials or their families is a serious threat to democracy and public safety.
An investigation is ongoing.
