Govt denies keeping Imran Khan in solitary confinement

ISLAMABAD:
Islamabad, June 6 – The federal government has denied allegations that it is obstructing access to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan by his lawyers and family. In a response submitted to the Supreme Court, the government included photographs of Khan meeting with his legal team in prison to support its stance.
The government provided a list of individuals who have met with Khan, countering claims of solitary confinement. Khan had previously alleged in court that he was being denied access to his lawyers. The government suggested appointing a commission to verify these claims if necessary.
Officials stated that Khan has been provided with necessary facilities in jail, including books, an air cooler, and a television. Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for facilitating meetings with Khan were formalized in a document dated March 28. PTI leaders Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Sher Afzal Marwat, and Barrister Umair Ahmad Khan Niazi were designated as focal persons for coordinating visits at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.
Visitors must coordinate with jail authorities through designated focal persons, who provide the visitor list one day in advance, adhering to a six-person limit per meeting. The Punjab government imposed a two-week visitor ban at Adiala Jail starting March 12 due to security concerns based on intelligence reports. PTI leaders criticized the ban, alleging it was a deliberate attempt to obstruct meetings with Khan, currently incarcerated at the facility.
