Hillary Clinton sharply criticized President Donald Trump and his administration for the recent leak of U.S. military attack plans, which were accidentally shared with a journalist via the Signal app. The former Secretary of State blasted the handling of classified information, calling it not just hypocrisy but “stupidity” in her New York Times opinion piece.
Clinton expressed disbelief that senior officials, including Trump’s team, failed to protect sensitive military information, pointing out the recklessness of using a commercial app for such discussions. “What’s much worse,” she wrote, “is that top Trump administration officials put our troops in jeopardy by sharing military plans and unwittingly invited a journalist into the chat.”
She also criticized the administration for its series of missteps that, in her view, weakened U.S. security and international standing. From undermining efforts to protect nuclear assets to fighting pandemics, Clinton argued the administration’s actions continued to harm the nation’s interests.
In response, White House spokesperson Harrison Field fired back, suggesting Clinton shouldn’t cast stones, given her own past controversies. The Signal leak, however, has sparked calls for accountability. Some lawmakers, including Sen. Mark Kelly, have demanded the resignation or firing of key officials involved, citing the leak as an immediate threat to national security.
The controversy centers on a Signal group chat where military strategies were shared, including detailed attack plans on Houthi forces in Yemen, which were then leaked to journalist Jeffrey Goldberg. The incident has intensified the ongoing debate over the Trump administration’s handling of classified materials.
