Cairo, August 31 (QNA) – The 116th Regular Session of the Arab Economic and Social Council (AESC) convened Sunday at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo, Egypt.
Minister Plenipotentiary overseeing the Social Affairs Sector at the Arab League, Inas Al Farjani, affirmed that the agenda comprised a wide array of critical social issues, prepared by the Arab League’s General Secretariat in coordination with member states and specialized organizations.
This primarily included two proposals submitted by the State of Palestine, focused on providing essential social care to the most vulnerable groups.
Providing essential humanitarian and social aid for the State of Palestine has remained a foremost current priority on the Arab agenda, particularly given the aggravation of the humanitarian situation across multiple areas in the Palestinian territories, resulting from crimes perpetrated by the Israeli occupation forces under the oversight of the entire world, with persistent international impotence to halt them, Al Farjani stressed.
He pointed out that the agenda also encompassed a follow-up on the establishment of the Arab Drug Agency (WAD), an initiative that the General Secretariat is diligently advancing in implementation of the AESC’s decisions in this respect.
Al Farjani further clarified that the agenda likewise addresses two topics proposed by the Kingdom of Morocco under the item of any other actions in connection with the Youth Charter in the Arab region.
This comprises promoting the right to organize family as a driver of sustainable development in Arab countries, according to the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD), and analyzing challenges associated with the decline in fertility rates, to be further incorporated into the draft agenda of this session.
