Iranian state television reported Sunday that Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed following bombardment attributed by Iranian authorities to the United States and Israel. No independent international confirmation or operational details were immediately available.
According to Iranian state media, authorities declared 40 days of nationwide public mourning. Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said Khamenei was killed at his office early Saturday, describing his death as the beginning of what it called a “great uprising against the tyrants of the world.”
In a statement, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps vowed to “decisively avenge” the killing, asserting that “the hand of revenge of the Iranian people will not release the killers.” The Guard added that martyrdom in the path of Islam and Iran represents victory and that Khamenei’s legacy would continue “with strength and grandeur.”
Iranian authorities also called on citizens to participate in national defense gatherings to demonstrate unity against what they described as enemies and terrorists, saying the incident would strengthen national resolve to continue Khamenei’s path.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump said on his Truth Social platform that Khamenei was “dead.” The post did not include additional details regarding the circumstances.
As of reporting time, no additional verification from major international news agencies had been issued regarding the reported circumstances of his death.
