Tehran, June 30 – Iran’s Foreign Ministry has accused the United States of undermining diplomacy by supporting Israeli military actions, claiming it jeopardizes ongoing nuclear negotiations.
At a weekly press briefing, ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said the U.S. had “betrayed the diplomatic process” by encouraging Israeli airstrikes that occurred just two days before a planned sixth round of indirect talks between Tehran and Washington, mediated by Oman.
“This betrayal has undoubtedly damaged the path of negotiations,” Baghaei stated, warning that the strikes seriously threaten prospects for continued dialogue. He dismissed U.S. claims that Iran lacks seriousness in the talks, calling them “baseless” and a mere pretext for aggression.
The negotiations, which began in April, had completed five indirect rounds before being halted. The pause followed an escalation in hostilities that included Israeli strikes on Tehran and other locations, and a June 22 U.S. bombing of three Iranian nuclear facilities. Iran retaliated by targeting Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, home to U.S. forces.
A ceasefire between Iran and Israel was reached on June 24, ending 12 days of conflict.
Baghaei also criticized Germany and France for supporting Israel. He singled out German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, condemning his statement describing Israel’s actions as “the dirty work Israel is doing for all of us.” Baghaei said such remarks would bring “eternal shame” to Germany.
