Iran Rejects Allowing Inspection of Its Bombed Nuclear Sites Before Appropriate Guidelines Set

Tehran, December 24 (QNA) – Vice-President of the Islamic Republic, Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Mohammad Eslami said that his country will not respond to any demands for its bombed nuclear sites to be inspected before clear guidelines for inspecting facilities damaged by military attacks are set.
In his remarks speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Eslami noted that United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231 has expired, and that attempts by the United States and some European countries to revive it or use it as a pretext to reinstate lifted sanctions are unacceptable actions.
He added that Iran has always been among the most cooperative with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), pointing to previous inspections to the country’s facilities, which according to him were the most stringent in IAEA history, with no reports indicating deviations from regulations or violations of the Safeguards Agreement.
The Iranian Vice-President, Head of the AEOI said that Article 68 of the IAEA Safeguards sets guidelines for inspecting facilities damaged by natural disasters, not wars or military attacks.
He added that the IAEA should formally state on whether attacks on nuclear sites are authorized, and if they are not, then it should condemn such attacks and should specify post-war conditions.
