Tehran: Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has claimed that 10 foreign intelligence services were involved in what it described as recent “terrorist” incidents across the country.
In a statement carried by its official outlet Sepah News, the IRGC alleged that the unrest formed part of a failed “U.S.-Israeli plan” aimed at undermining Iran’s territorial integrity and national security. The statement said a foreign “command room” was established following a 12-day conflict in June to incite internal instability, encourage military intervention, and mobilize groups considered a threat. No evidence was provided to support the claims.
According to the IRGC, security forces disrupted the alleged plots between June and late December. Authorities reported detaining 735 individuals linked to what were termed “anti-security networks,” guiding 11,000 people described as vulnerable, and confiscating 743 illegal weapons.
Separately, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf described the unrest as a “quasi-coup” allegedly backed by the United States and Israel, during a phone call with Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus, as reported by the official IRNA news agency. He also thanked Türkiye for maintaining a policy of non-interference in Iran’s internal affairs.
Protests began last month over economic concerns before expanding into broader political demonstrations. The unrest turned violent in several areas, resulting in casualties and damage to public and government property. Iranian authorities have blamed foreign actors for fueling the disturbances.
