Tehran, September 2, 2025 – A senior Iranian security official has stated that the path for nuclear negotiations with the United States remains open, despite rising tensions in the region.
Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, made the remarks in a post on social media platform X, outlining Tehran’s conditions for future engagement with Washington. He emphasized that Iran seeks “rational” dialogue, but warned that demands considered “unrealistic,” such as restrictions on Iran’s missile program, undermine the possibility of meaningful negotiations.
Indirect nuclear talks between Iran and the United States were set for June 15 in Oman but were suspended after Israel launched large-scale airstrikes on June 13 against Iranian nuclear and military sites. The U.S. followed with strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities on June 22, further escalating the standoff.
Despite the setbacks, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on August 28 that Washington remains committed to pursuing direct negotiations with Tehran. His remarks came shortly after France, Britain, and Germany – collectively known as the E3 – moved to trigger the UN “snapback” mechanism, aiming to reinstate sanctions on Iran over its nuclear activities.
Larijani’s statement signals that while mistrust remains high, Tehran has not entirely ruled out renewed diplomatic efforts with Washington.
