Cairo — Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has warned that U.S. and Israeli military bases across the Middle East would be considered “legitimate targets” if Washington launches military action against Iran.
Addressing lawmakers on Sunday, Qalibaf said any attack on Iran would trigger a broad response, including strikes on Israeli territory and U.S. bases and naval assets, according to regional media reports.
The warning comes amid reports that U.S. President Donald Trump is seriously considering authorizing military strikes against Iran. The New York Times cited U.S. officials saying Trump was briefed on new military options in recent days.
The remarks come as protests continue across several Iranian cities, triggered by economic hardship and the sharp fall of the national currency. Iranian authorities have acknowledged the demonstrations, expressing readiness to address economic concerns while warning against violence and vandalism.
Clashes between security forces and protesters have been reported in recent days, resulting in casualties, though no official death toll has been released.
Meanwhile, Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency said President Masoud Pezeshkian is expected to address the nation Sunday in a televised interview on economic conditions and the political environment.
