TEHRAN – An Iranian military adviser, Majid Diwani, has succumbed to injuries sustained from an Israeli airstrike on the Syrian capital, Damascus. Diwani, who served in Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), was critically injured in the strike on October 1 and passed away Thursday, according to Iranian news agency Mehr.
The Israeli airstrikes targeted Damascus’ Mazzeh neighborhood, resulting in at least three fatalities and injuring nine others, according to Syrian state media reports. This incident further escalates the ongoing tensions in the region.
The broader conflict stems from Israel’s relentless offensive in the Gaza Strip following a Hamas attack last year. To date, nearly 41,800 Palestinians, primarily women and children, have been killed in Gaza. The violence has also spread to Lebanon, where Israeli airstrikes have claimed more than 1,100 lives and injured over 3,000 since late September.
The international community continues to warn of the potential for a wider regional conflict as violence escalates.
Regional tensions remain high, with fears of further escalation as Israeli military actions continue. Sources Anadolu Ajansı
