TEHRAN, April 12 – Iran’s war-damaged Lavan refinery is expected to restore 80 percent of its pre-conflict production capacity within one to two months, Deputy Oil Minister Mohammad Sadegh Azimifar said Sunday.
Azimifar, who also heads the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company, made the announcement during a visit to the refinery on Lavan Island in southern Iran, according to Fars news agency.
He said parts of the damaged facilities are expected to resume operations within about 10 days as recovery efforts begin.
Azimifar said attacks on Iran’s energy infrastructure aimed to disrupt the country’s fuel production and distribution network but failed to meet their objectives.
The refinery was damaged during joint U.S.-Israeli strikes launched on Feb. 28 against Tehran and several other Iranian cities.
The attacks killed Iran’s then Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, senior military officials and civilians, while also damaging oil depots, refineries and petrochemical plants.
Iran later responded with missile and drone strikes targeting Israel and U.S. assets in the Middle East, escalating regional tensions.
