The Israeli army carried out a series of intense airstrikes on Friday, targeting forested and mountainous areas in southern Lebanon, including Ali Al-Taher, Kfar Tebnit, and Nabatiyeh Al-Fouqa. According to Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA), the strikes involved concussion rockets that triggered powerful explosions heard across the region.
In a second wave within ten minutes, Israeli aircraft resumed heavy bombardment of the same locations. The Israeli military later confirmed the airstrikes, claiming they had targeted a Hezbollah site on Mount Shqif to prevent its reconstruction.
Despite a ceasefire agreement reached last November to end months of cross-border conflict, Israeli forces have continued near-daily air raids in southern Lebanon. The Israeli military maintains that these operations are aimed at curbing Hezbollah’s movements and infrastructure development.
Tensions between Israel and Hezbollah escalated into open conflict in September, prompting the eventual ceasefire. However, ongoing hostilities threaten the fragile truce, with both sides exchanging accusations and strikes. The latest escalation raises concerns about a potential resurgence of full-scale conflict in the region.
Lebanese authorities have not yet confirmed casualties or the extent of damage resulting from Friday’s attacks.
