Washington, May 15 — The second-day meetings of the third round of direct talks between Israel and Lebanon began on Friday at the US State Department in Washington, according to an informed source cited by Anadolu.
Further details of the discussions were not immediately released. The talks, which began on Thursday evening, continued for several hours before being adjourned.
A State Department official earlier confirmed to Anadolu that the United States delegation includes Counselor Michael Needham, US envoy to Israel Mike Huckabee, and US Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa.
The Lebanese delegation is represented by Ambassador Nada Hamadeh and presidential special envoy Simon Karam, while Israel is represented by Ambassador Yechiel Leiter, Deputy National Security Adviser Yossi Draznin, and senior military officials.
The ongoing talks are part of the third round of negotiations aimed at addressing tensions between the two sides under US mediation. The discussions follow continued hostilities along the Israel-Lebanon border despite diplomatic efforts to stabilize the situation.
Since March 2, Israeli attacks in Lebanon have killed at least 2,896 people, injured 8,824, and displaced more than 1.6 million, according to Lebanese authorities.
