Israel orders demolition of 17 Palestinian homes in West Bank Camp

The Israeli army has issued demolition orders for 17 Palestinian homes in the Nur Shams refugee camp in the northern West Bank, a local official confirmed Wednesday.
According to Nihad Al-Shawish, head of a local service committee, the demolitions are allegedly for road construction in the camp’s Al-Manshiya neighborhood. He warned that the move would leave dozens of families homeless, adding that 11 homes were already demolished in recent days.
Palestinian officials have condemned the demolitions as collective punishment aimed at altering the camp’s geography under false security claims. The Israeli military has been conducting operations in the northern West Bank since January 21, killing at least 65 Palestinians and displacing thousands.
The Palestinian leadership sees these actions as part of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s broader strategy to annex the occupied West Bank, effectively dismantling the two-state solution.
Tensions remain high across the region, with at least 930 Palestinians killed and nearly 7,000 injured by Israeli forces and settlers since the Gaza war began on October 7, 2023, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.
In July, the International Court of Justice ruled Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories illegal, calling for the removal of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
