BEIRUT, April 9 — At least 17 people were killed and several others injured in fresh Israeli airstrikes targeting multiple towns in southern Lebanon, according to Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) on Thursday.

A major strike on the town of Zrariyeh reportedly killed more than 10 people, including women and children, after a residential building was hit. In a separate incident, at least seven people were killed in an air raid on Abbassiyeh, with several others wounded. Authorities cautioned that casualty figures remain preliminary.

The report added that Israeli warplanes carried out a series of coordinated strikes across several towns, including Kafra, Jmaijmeh, Safad al-Battikh, Majdal Selm, Deir Antar, and areas near the Qasmiyeh bridge. Artillery shelling was also reported in the town of Haris.

The escalation follows heavy bombardment on Wednesday, when at least 254 people were killed and more than 1,100 injured across Lebanon, including in Beirut, according to the Lebanese Civil Defense.

Despite a recently announced US-Iran ceasefire, hostilities have intensified. Since March 2, the Lebanese Health Ministry reports that the overall death toll has risen to 1,739, with 5,873 people injured.
