On June 4, 2025, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) issued an urgent warning to Gaza residents, advising against returning to northern areas such as Beit Lahia, Jabalia, and Beit Hanoun.
IDF spokesperson Avichay Adraee, in a statement posted on social media platform X, warned that these zones are currently active combat areas, with Israeli forces operating there “with heavy force.” He specifically identified regions north of Salah Khalaf Street in Gaza City and Al Quds Street in Jabalia as extremely dangerous and declared them combat zones.
“For your safety, refrain from moving north towards these areas,” the IDF message stressed.
The warning comes amid a renewed Israeli offensive launched on March 18, following a two-month ceasefire with Hamas. According to Gaza-based health authorities, over 4,000 Palestinians have been killed since fighting resumed.
Just a day earlier, at least 27 civilians were killed while waiting for food near a distribution site in Rafah, prompting humanitarian groups to halt relief operations temporarily. The humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate, with limited access to aid, medical care, and safe zones.
In light of the ongoing escalation, international observers have urged restraint and renewed dialogue, stressing the urgent need to protect civilians and enable the delivery of critical humanitarian assistance.
The warnings by the Israeli military reflect the heightened danger in northern Gaza and the pressing need for safe passage and shelter for displaced families.
