Doha — In a statement issued on September 10, Japan’s Foreign Minister IWAYA Takeshi strongly condemned the Israeli strike announced on September 9, which targeted Hamas leaders staying in Doha, Qatar.
Foreign Minister IWAYA emphasized that the realization of a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages remain urgent priorities. He noted that the attack undermines ongoing diplomatic efforts being pursued by relevant countries, including Qatar, and constitutes a serious violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and security, thereby posing a grave threat to regional stability.
Japan expressed its solidarity with Qatar and reiterated its call on Israel to immediately return to negotiations and to work in good faith toward a ceasefire and the safe release of hostages.
In his statement, Foreign Minister IWAYA stressed that peace and stability in the Middle East are of paramount importance to Japan. He urged all parties to refrain from actions, including acts of terrorism, that risk exacerbating tensions, and called for a collective commitment to de-escalation.
The Government of Japan reaffirmed its determination to continue all necessary diplomatic efforts to prevent further deterioration of the situation, while ensuring the safety of Japanese nationals in the region.
