Dubai, December 1 – The International Cricket Council (ICC) today marked the beginning of Jay Shah’s tenure as ICC Chair, succeeding Greg Barclay, who held the position since November 2020.
In his inaugural statement, Shah highlighted his priorities, including leveraging cricket’s inclusion in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games and accelerating the growth of the women’s game. “This is an exciting time for cricket as we prepare for LA28 and work to make the sport more inclusive and engaging for fans worldwide,” Shah stated.
Shah emphasized the need to balance multiple formats and seize cricket’s global potential. “Cricket holds immense opportunities, and I look forward to working with the ICC team and member countries to elevate the sport to new heights,” he added.
A seasoned cricket administrator, Shah began his journey in 2009 with the Gujarat Cricket Association, overseeing the development of the world’s largest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad. He later joined the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2019 as its youngest-ever Honorary Secretary. Shah also served as President of the Asian Cricket Council and Chair of the ICC Finance and Commercial Affairs Committee.
Shah acknowledged Barclay’s leadership, expressing gratitude for his contributions to ICC’s achievements over the past four years.
With Shah’s appointment, the ICC enters a new chapter focused on expanding cricket’s global reach and inclusivity.
