Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) has strongly condemned the Indian government’s sentencing of pro-freedom Kashmiri women political leaders, terming the verdicts as a politically motivated act under the guise of fabricated cases.
In a statement from the party’s central information office in Mirpur on Wednesday, JKLF chief spokesman Muhammad Rafiq Dar described the life imprisonment of Dukhtar-e-Millat chief Syeda Aasiya Andrabi and the 30-year sentences of her associates Nahida Nasreen and Fehmida Sofi as an attempt by the Modi-led government to suppress pro-freedom leadership through the Indian judiciary.
Rafiq Dar condemned the continued illegal arrests of pro-freedom leaders, who have long struggled for Jammu Kashmir’s right to self-determination, and appealed to world powers, the United Nations, and international human rights organizations to intervene immediately for a peaceful and just resolution of the long-standing issue.
He also demanded the immediate and unconditional release, and withdrawal of politically motivated cases, against leaders including M. Yasin Malik, Shabir A. Shah, Masarat Alam Butt, and others, stressing that the pursuit of justice cannot be delayed.
Meanwhile, the JKLF expressed deep sorrow over the death of the father of jailed senior leader Saleem Nanaji, offering heartfelt condolences to the grieving family and prayers for the deceased’s soul.
