Joint Statement at Conclusion of Visit of HH the Amir to Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Riyadh,(QNA) December 8 — HH the Amir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani concluded an official visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Monday, reaffirming the strength of historic fraternal ties and the growing strategic partnership between the two brotherly nations. The visit came at the invitation of HRH Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
Upon arrival at Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh, HH the Amir was warmly welcomed by HRH the Crown Prince. The two leaders held an official session of talks that focused on reviewing bilateral relations and exploring new horizons for cooperation. Discussions addressed opportunities to enhance collaboration in political, economic, cultural, and security fields, in line with the shared vision of both leaderships to further advance relations.
The talks also highlighted the successful outcomes of recent reciprocal visits, which have played a significant role in strengthening coordination at all levels. Both leaders commended the steady progress achieved and reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation for the benefit of their peoples.
As part of the visit, HH the Amir and HRH the Crown Prince co-chaired the Eighth Meeting of the Qatari-Saudi Coordination Council. The session was attended by senior ministers and officials from both nations. The Council reviewed achievements in key fields, including political and security coordination, defense collaboration, economic integration, technology, education, tourism, and culture. Both sides emphasized the importance of maintaining the momentum of joint work and accelerating progress in priority sectors.
Economic cooperation featured prominently in the discussions. Both sides highlighted the significant growth in bilateral trade, which reached USD 930.3 million in 2024—recording an impressive 634 percent increase compared to 2021. They called for intensified efforts to expand trade exchange, facilitate commercial movement, address potential challenges, and capitalize on new investment prospects aligned with Saudi Vision 2030 and Qatar National Vision 2030. The two countries also welcomed deeper cooperation between sovereign wealth funds and encouraged more frequent visits and business forums between public and private sector leaders.
In the energy sector, Qatar and Saudi Arabia reaffirmed the importance of strengthening the stability and reliability of global energy markets. They expressed interest in expanding joint cooperation in areas such as electricity, renewable energy, energy efficiency, and integrated energy projects that support economic sustainability. Both sides noted the need to reinforce supply-chain resilience and encourage collaboration between companies to maximize local resources. On climate policy, they agreed to enhance cooperation within international frameworks and stressed that effective climate policies should prioritize emissions reduction rather than sources.
The two countries also agreed on expanding cooperation in the digital economy, innovation, industry and mining, youth and sports programs, cultural and media initiatives, health, education, and cybersecurity. In defense and security, both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening partnerships to support regional and global stability. They praised ongoing security cooperation in areas including border security, counter-narcotics operations, cybersecurity, countering extremism and terrorism, information-sharing, and joint training.
A major highlight of the visit was the signing of the High-Speed Electric Rail Link Agreement connecting Riyadh and Doha via Dammam and Al-Hofuf—an initiative aligned with both countries’ national visions and expected to strengthen tourism, trade, and people-to-people ties. Several additional agreements and MoUs were also signed in fields such as transport, investment promotion, food security, media cooperation, and the non-profit sector.
On international affairs, both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to protecting international peace and stability and exchanged views on regional and global developments. The Saudi side also welcomed Qatar’s ratification of the World Water Organization Charter, which aims to enhance global collaboration on water challenges.
At the conclusion of the visit, HH the Amir expressed deep gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and HRH the Crown Prince for their warm reception and generous hospitality. HRH the Crown Prince, in turn, conveyed his sincere wishes for continued progress and prosperity to the Qatari leadership and people.
