Amman, January 02 (QNA) – Jordan has strongly condemned Israel’s unilateral and “illegal” measures in the occupied West Bank, particularly actions targeting the Al Haram Al Ibrahimi (Ibrahimi Mosque) in Hebron.
Fuad Al Majali, spokesperson for the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, expressed his country’s rejection of Israel’s decision to strip the Hebron municipality of its planning and construction authority over the site and to unilaterally approve a roof project for the mosque’s courtyard.
Al Majali described these measures as violations of international law, the 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict, and United Nations resolutions including UNESCO’s 2017 decision to list Hebron’s Old City and the Ibrahimi Mosque as World Heritage in Danger.
Jordan called on the international community to uphold its legal and moral responsibilities, compel Israel to halt its illegal measures in the occupied Palestinian territories, and safeguard the cultural and religious heritage of the Ibrahimi Mosque, preserving its globally significant value.
