MIRPUR (AJK), August 5 – Kashmiri expatriates in Tokyo, Japan, joined people around the world in marking the 6th anniversary of India’s revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status on August 5, 2019, by observing ‘Youm-e-Istehsaal’ and Black Day, holding protest rallies and awareness events to condemn India’s actions in the disputed territory.
According to reports received by our Special Jammu and Kashmir Correspondent Altaf Hamid Rao, mass anti-India protests were organized in front of the Indian Embassy and the United Nations office in Tokyo under the leadership of Advocate Shahid Majeed, Chairman of the Kashmir Solidarity Forum Japan. Demonstrators held placards, chanted slogans, and called for the restoration of Kashmir’s special status and its internationally recognized right to self-determination.
A large number of Pakistani-Kashmiri expatriates, civil society members, and students participated in the march. The protest aimed to highlight the serious human rights violations, mass detentions, media blackouts, and demographic changes imposed by the Indian government in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir since August 2019.
A photo exhibition was also held at the Embassy of Pakistan in Tokyo to raise awareness about the suffering of the Kashmiri people. The exhibition featured powerful visuals depicting daily life under military siege, the resilience of Kashmiri families, and tributes to martyrs.
Ambassador of Pakistan to Japan, Abdul Hameed Bhatta, addressed the gathering and reaffirmed Pakistan’s firm stance. “The Indian actions of August 5, 2019, were not only illegal but also an assault on the dignity and rights of the Kashmiri people,” he stated. “Pakistan will continue to extend full diplomatic, political, and moral support to Kashmiris until their legitimate aspirations are fulfilled.”
He further condemned India’s disregard for UN Security Council resolutions and urged the international community to hold India accountable for its oppressive policies.
Shahid Majeed Advocate thanked the Government of Pakistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and all overseas Pakistanis for their consistent solidarity. He reiterated that the Kashmiri people, despite brutal oppression, remain firm in their desire to be part of Pakistan. “The struggle will go on until Kashmiris achieve justice and freedom,” he vowed.
The events concluded with passionate chants in support of Pakistan, its Armed Forces, and Kashmiri martyrs, reaffirming the diaspora’s commitment to continue exposing Indian violations across global platforms.
