KUJ Sets May 31 Deadline for District Units Elections 2026

MIRPUR (AJK), March 26 – The Jammu and Kashmir Union of Journalists (JKUJ) announced that the election process for office bearers of all district units will be completed by May 31, 2026, under all circumstances. Following the completion of district-level elections, the union will proceed with elections for divisional and central office bearers, JKUJ President Hafiz Maqsood confirmed during a media briefing on Thursday.
The announcement came after a key meeting of central office bearers and district representatives held in Mirpur, chaired by President Hafiz Maqsood. The meeting was attended by prominent figures including Central Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Abid Siddique, Rawalakot District Union President Sardar Abdul Razak Khan, Central Vice President Sardar Rashid Nazir, former Central Secretary Finance Altaf Hamid Rao, former Kashmir Press Club Mirpur president Arshad Butt, and senior journalists from various districts. Several members also participated via Zoom and video link, including Daniyal Khawaja, General Secretary, and Central Secretary General Tahir Ahmed Abbasi, who could not attend in person due to bereavement.
During the meeting, participants discussed strengthening the union at all levels, ensuring effective coordination across districts, and enhancing the role of journalists in restoring the organization’s prestige. The leadership emphasized teamwork and active participation by all district units to consolidate the union’s influence and work collectively for the welfare of journalists. They also deliberated on introducing training programs, mentorship initiatives, and professional development workshops to further empower journalists and promote ethical standards in reporting.
President Hafiz Maqsood reaffirmed that JKUJ is committed to completing the elections process on schedule and building a stronger, more effective union that represents journalists’ interests across Jammu and Kashmir, while fostering transparency, accountability, and active engagement in all districts.
