MIRPUR (AJK), Jan. 26: Besides all other parts of Azad Jammu Kashmir, people of all three districts of Mirpur belonging to all segments of the civil society observed Indian Republic Day as Black Day on Monday, reiterating severe hatred against India and demanding early grant of the right to self-determination to the people of Jammu Kashmir, which they say has been denied by India for the last 75 years under unlawful occupational military power in occupied Jammu & Kashmir.
Our Special Jammu Kashmir State Correspondent Altaf Hamid Rao reports from Mirpur that protest rallies followed by major anti-India demonstrations by local students and elders of civil society were held in Mirpur, Kotli and Bhimber districts.
In lakeside Mirpur district, a major protest rally was staged by civil society to mark January 26, “India’s Yome Jamuria,” as Black Day, in collaboration with district administration, lawyers, traders, and social and political activists. The rally proceeded from District Court premises to Chowk Shaheedan.
Chairman National Events Organising Committee DC Raja Sadaqat, DBA Secretary General Advocate Raja Gulbahar, Sohail Shujah Mujahid, President Trade Union Mpr Rashid, President Municipality Employee Union, Muslim Conference leader Shakoor Mughal, Senior Journalist Zaffar Mughal, Zahid Bashir Chaudhry and others led the rally.
Participants marched through various city streets chanting anti-India slogans over massive human rights abuses by Indian occupational forces. They also raised “Pakistan Zindabad” and “Pak Army Zindabad” slogans, holding placards and banners reading “India is a terrorist country” and “Unlawful Indian occupation of Kashmir is not acceptable.”
City elders representing all segments of civil society highlighted the importance of early peaceful settlement of the Kashmir problem and protested continued forcible and illegal Indian occupation of major parts of Jammu & Kashmir. Speakers expressed grave concern over recent escalation on the Line of Control, citing frequent unprovoked firing by Indian troops.
They called upon the world community to ensure a peaceful solution in accordance with UN resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people. They said the struggle would continue until freedom of occupied Jammu Kashmir and accession of the entire state to Pakistan, paying tributes to the valiant people of occupied Jammu & Kashmir.
Various political, religious, social and human rights organizations held similar rallies across Mirpur division. Kashmiris in Indian-illegally occupied Jammu Kashmir have continued their indigenous struggle since 1989 for self-determination, which they say has been denied for the last 78 years under over a million occupying military and paramilitary troops deployed in the territory.
