Caracas / Washington, January 06 – Venezuelan opposition leader and 2025 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Maria Corina Machado said she dedicated her Nobel Peace Prize to US President Donald Trump, confirming she last spoke with him on the day the award was announced in October.
In an interview with Fox News, Machado said, “I spoke with President Trump on October 10, the same day the prize was announced. I have not spoken with him since then.” She added that dedicating the prize to Trump was a decision made immediately after receiving the honor.
The Nobel Committee awarded Machado the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of her efforts to defend democratic rights and promote a peaceful transition from authoritarian rule to democracy in Venezuela.
Commenting on recent developments, Machado praised Trump’s role in confronting what she described as tyranny in Venezuela. “I believed he deserved it in October. Imagine now. January 3 will go down in history as the day justice defeated a tyranny. It is a milestone,” she said.
Trump, meanwhile, claimed recent US military actions resulted in the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores, stating the United States would assert control if necessary. These claims have not been independently verified.
When asked whether she had formally offered to share the Nobel Prize with Trump, Machado said it had not yet happened, adding, “I want to give it to him and share it with him.”
