Hundreds of thousands of people across Europe rallied on Saturday in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, calling for an immediate end to Israeli attacks and starvation in the besieged enclave.
In London, the 30th National March for Palestine saw huge crowds march from Russell Square to the Prime Minister’s Office under the banner “Stop Starving Gaza.” Organised by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, demonstrators accused the British government of complicity in what they described as genocide, urging decisive action to halt Israel’s assault.
In Stockholm, protesters gathered at Odenplan with placards condemning Israeli plans to occupy Gaza City and US support for Israel. The march ended at the Foreign Ministry. Similar rallies were held in Amsterdam, demanding unrestricted humanitarian aid.
Gaza’s Health Ministry reported 21 Palestinians killed and 341 injured in the past 24 hours while trying to obtain aid, bringing the toll since May 27 to 1,743 dead and 12,590 wounded. Eleven more, including children, died from famine and malnutrition, raising such deaths to 212.
In Spain, demonstrations in cities including Madrid denounced the siege and starvation, with protesters chanting “End the genocide” and banging pots to highlight the humanitarian crisis. Thousands in Geneva staged a sit-in at Jardin Anglais, also using kitchen utensils to protest the blockade.
Israel’s Security Cabinet on Friday approved Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s controversial Gaza occupation plan, opposed internationally. The Israeli military has killed 9,862 and injured 40,809 since resuming attacks on March 18, breaking a ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal.
Israel faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice, while the International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant over war crimes in Gaza.
