MCIT Digital Innovation Director: Web Summit boosts Qatar’s tech hub

Doha, February 24 (QNA) – Director of Digital Innovation Department at the Ministry of Communications and Information technology (MCIT), Eman Al Kuwari, stated that the Web Summit Qatar 2025, is one of the most consequential global platforms for entrepreneurs, innovators and investors.

She added that Qatar’s hosting of this major event enhances its stature as a key hub that garners all those interested in technology and entrepreneurship.

Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Al Kuwari highlighted that the second edition of this summit confirmed Qatar had fulfilled its promises on the ground, transitioning from the declaration of an investment portfolio worth QR1 billion in 2024, to providing six investment portfolios in 2025, in pursuit of supporting startups.

She stressed that this move underscores the State of Qatar’s commitment to promoting the innovative climate and drawing investments, underlining that MCIT has crafted a strategy to foster innovation at home, with the Digital Agenda 2030 serving as a clear plan which is based on six core pillars, including supporting the digital economy, boosting innovation system and advancing public services and investment in digital infrastructure.

MCIT set this strategy to achieve the Qatar National Vision’s objectives and has recently signed a long-term agreement with Scale AI to support AI-dependent nascent projects, noted Al Kuwari, highlighting that the ministry has launched a wide array of initiatives to support entrepreneurs, including the Digital Incubation Center that has been supporting startups through guidance and consultations.

The center has been offering free workspaces for a period of two years, along with opportunities to participate in international exhibitions to internalize expertise, she said.

Al Kuwari emphasized that MCIT has likewise launched TASMU Accelerator that aims to attract globally successful firms to tap into the Qatari market, as long as AI represents a fundamental component in the ministry’s strategy which contributes to optimizing the performance of public entities and bolstering the national economy.

Al Kuwari highlighted that the ministry has recently reached an agreement with one of the mammoth international firms specializing in AI to help implement advanced projects in this field, thereby enhancing Qatar’s technological capabilities.

She rhapsodized about the most sophisticated digital infrastructure that Qatar possesses in the region undergirded by strategic partnerships with grand international firms, such as Microsoft and Google which offer the cloud computing services domestically, thereby reflecting the superb digital environment in Qatar and contributing to drawing further major investment firms.

Concluding, Al Kuwari underscored the ministry’s enduring commitment to advancing the digital infrastructure and enhancing Qatar’s standing as a regional hub for technological innovation and entrepreneurship.
